The Pit Stop

You’re warmly welcome to come by Redemption Church (3512 West 7th Ave - the little blue church across the street from Bayview Elementary on Collingwood & 7th) on Tuesday, October 31 for our second annual Halloween Pit Stop. From 5:30-8:00 pm, come warm yourself by the fire, make a s'more, watch a short movie, grab a snack or hot drink, and enjoy a hot dog or burger off the grill. You're welcome to drop by or stay for while to warm up or take a break from Trick-or-Treating. All are welcome!

PLEASE NOTE: We would LOVE for all of you to discern your response to and engagement with Halloween according to your convictions and what the Spirit is saying to you and your family. We also love the idea of each person and family being connected in their neighbourhoods. So we bless and encourage you to respond accordingly in your home and neighbourhood. We do want to take the opportunity to be a warm and welcoming presence in Kitsilano, so if you'd like to partner with us in this, we would very much invite your participation. Please contact info@redemptionchurch.ca if you'd like to join us in hosting our neighbours!

The Pit Stop

Do you like: serving warm drinks?  Greeting people at the front door?  Sitting around a fire-pit?  Hanging out as a cozy couch potato in a living room?  Meeting the neighbours?  Guessing what the kids' costumes really represent? If you answered yes to any of these questions and are looking for a place to hang out on October 31, come by the church from 5-8pm.  We are opening our doors to the neighbourhood to be a warm presence - and very practically, a pit stop for any desperate Trick-or-Treaters.  We'll have hot drinks, our bathrooms, and some short videos 'in the living room' available for anybody who needs to get warmed up or take a break.

The Monday night Kits Oikos has taken the lead on hosting this event so if you would like to partner with them, please contact John Lippert.

PLEASE NOTE:  We would LOVE for all of you to discern your response to and engagement with Hallowe'en according to your convictions and what the Spirit is saying to you and your family.

See Lisl's blog post about Hallowe'en if you have any questions about this.

Parenting with Intention, Purpose, and Fun!

Starting on January 16, Rebecca Janke of Granville Chapel, is offering a 3 session parenting course called: Parenting with Intention, Purpose, and Fun!

WHEN: January 16, 23, and 30 from 9am to 12pm
WHERE: Granville Chapel - 5901 Granville St.
WHO: For parents or youth/childcare workers with children in the age range of 18 months to 14 years.
HOW MUCH: $50 total.  Some childcare spots are available for $5 per child per session.

This is a great way to meet other parents and youth/childcare workers in the broader Christian community and beyond.  Sessions will consist of teaching and small group work.  (Sharing stories, examples, strategy, etc.) Rebecca is a Registered Social Worker and much of her work is based on Gordon Neufeld's research.  Her whole approach is relationship-based; emphasizing the importance of developing healthy relationships between parents and children, setting realistic expectations, and finding necessary support along the way.

Some of the course will include a process of looking at your values  - breaking them down and understanding competing values.   You will also learn how to develop a purpose statement for your family.

You can check out Rebecca's website for more information.
Feel free to contact Lisl through email or call her at 604-732-5577 with any other questions.

Registration forms available at the church.

Welcome, Baby Grayson!

Hello, Baby Beesley!

Tyson and Kari welcomed their beautiful son Grayson David Donald Beesley on Thursday, December 3 at 8:35am. Grayson weighed in at 7 pounds 4 ounces. All three Beesleys are doing well and enjoying these first days together.

Delivering a meal is one way to help Tyson and Kari maximize these early moments with their little guy and adjust to life with a newborn. Please sign up for the day you're able to provide a meal and also what you'll bring.

A couple tips:

  1. Please drop off the meal around 5pm. If you need to drop it off at another time, text/call Tyson at 604-807-5899.
  2. When you arrive at their apartment building, buzz #204.
  3. Drop and run. Stay long enough to show you care but also be mindful that they need lots of time to rest and be together.
  4. There are no food allergies to note, but please go light on dairy products.
  5. If possible, use a container that you don't need back.

Thank you for supporting this lovely family with tasty meals!

Welcome, Baby Wasik!

Congratulations to proud parents Adam and Jeanine and big brother Atlas!

Bishop Emmanuel Wasik was born at 4:07am on August 19 weighing in at 8 pounds 12 ounces. Welcome, baby Bishop!

Let's help this growing family adjust to these early days with a toddler and a newborn. One way we as a community can do this is by providing yummy meals. Please sign up for the day you are able to provide a meal and what you will be bringing. You can check out the meal planner here

There are no allergies to mention, they enjoy all foods (though spicy dishes should probably be avoided). Afternoons are the best time to drop off meals. If you arrive later in the day,  knock instead of ringing the bell. Please be mindful of their need for quest rest and sleep.

Want to provide a meal but don't have a way to deliver it? Contact Lani and she'd be happy to assist with pick-up.

Thank you for supporting this beautiful family!

Welcome Baby Loti!

Kairos Shepherd Loti started his adventure in the world outside the womb at 5:56 AM on Friday, July 17, 2015! He was born at home after 12 hours of labour. Mama and baby are healthy but tired.

Let's help David and Beni recover and adjust to life as parents by blessing them with some supper meals! Please sign up for the day you are able to provide a meal and what you will be bringing. David and Beni request that meals be delivered between 5-7pm if possible. Please be mindful of their need for quiet rest and sleep.

You can access the meal schedule by clicking here, or by visiting TakeThemAMeal.com and locating the schedule by recipient last name (Loti) and password (baby).

Thank you so much for supporting this lovely family!

Welcome, Baby Wiebe!

Congratulations to proud parents Brian and Liz Wiebe who celebrated the arrival of Owen Alexander Wiebe on April 29th.

A meal schedule has been set up to help Brian and Liz maximize these early days with their little guy in this time of transition. Click here to view the schedule. Please sign up for a day and if possible what meal you're taking. Please prepare meals that contain little or no eggs and go easy on spicy foods.

Brian and Liz, we bless you and pray that these beginning weeks as a family of three will be filled with joy, comfort, and awe.

Thank you, Redemption community and beyond, for giving your time, energy and yummy meals!
