Looking up, letting go - Day 5

Our guest devotional writer this week and for many weekdays this coming month is the wonderful Rina Carbol.

If my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land,” (2 Chron. 7:14).

What God cares about the most is your heart.

“8…Be careful to follow all the commands of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever…

9 acknowledge the God of your father and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him he will be found by you…10 Be strong and do the work” (1 Chron. 28:7-10).

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)

What does it mean to seek the Lord “with all of your heart?” Not only are we called to acknowledge God, but we are to “serve him with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind.” How does that play itself out in your life?  I would like to suggest two words that appear repeatedly in the Bible: listen and obey.

Our hearts need to be right before God (“humble yourselves, pray and seek Him”), to hear His voice (“If you seek him he will be found by you,”) so that we know His commands for us. When we act in obedience to what he is directing us to do, we harness the power and authority of the Heavens to be unleashed in this city (“then you will call upon me and pray, and I will listen to you.”)

Pause, take a moment and reflect on the truth that our God is a faithful God. He promises that when you seek Him, as you are doing right now, you will find Him. As you humbly seek his face and pray, his eyes will be open and his ears attentive to your prayers.
