Behold: Advent 2017

advent2017slide.png

The Advent season, like the rest of the liturgical church calendar year is a way for a us to carve out time that is intentionally focused around aspects of Jesus’ life on earth. Focusing on Jesus’ life allows us to keep our faith centered on the Gospel message. The Advent season looks at the time leading up to and including the birth of Jesus.

This Advent season we invite you to join us as we ‘Behold’ our inheritance in Christ. Through the humble birth of Christ as a newborn, we have received the greatest gift of all, and that is our inheritance and adoption into God’s family. However, we do not receive this gift passively. We are called to actively take ownership of our inheritance.

Behold! Something great is about to happen…

Food for the Hungry: Ending Poverty Together Bootcamp

ffh-large.png

Hi friends!

Throughout the gospels, Christ turns people's perspectives upside down when it comes to the established social pecking order of his day: He consistently ate with people he shouldn't have eaten with, touched people who were considered "untouchable" and responded to people's immediate, physical needs. His heart for the poor and the marginalized is evident throughout scripture. We are called to join him in seeing people on the margins, treating them with dignity and caring for the physical, as much as spiritual, needs of those around us.

That said, best way to care isn't always straightforward. How to respond to things like the fentanyl crisis, refugee flows from very diverse places, natural disasters or plain, old, grinding, chronic poverty?  We want to wrestle through these challenges together to come to an understanding of how to help in a healthy way. To get a taste of what the day will be about, click here for a promo video and registration page

There is hope and there are ways to participate in Christ's work. Come and explore some of this topic in a thoughtful, open space. We'd love to see you there.

REGISTER HERE!

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • Saturday, Dec 2nd from 8:30-3:30 (lunch provided) at the church.
  • Cost is $25 with lunch included but we can provide subsidies to ensure everyone who wants to participate is able to.

You can invite your friends through our Facebook event at this link here!

If you have any questions, email the office at info@redemptionchurch.ca

The Pit Stop

pitstop2017.png

You’re warmly welcome to come by Redemption Church (3512 West 7th Ave - the little blue church across the street from Bayview Elementary on Collingwood & 7th) on Tuesday, October 31 for our second annual Halloween Pit Stop. From 5:30-8:00 pm, come warm yourself by the fire, make a s'more, watch a short movie, grab a snack or hot drink, and enjoy a hot dog or burger off the grill. You're welcome to drop by or stay for while to warm up or take a break from Trick-or-Treating. All are welcome!

PLEASE NOTE: We would LOVE for all of you to discern your response to and engagement with Halloween according to your convictions and what the Spirit is saying to you and your family. We also love the idea of each person and family being connected in their neighbourhoods. So we bless and encourage you to respond accordingly in your home and neighbourhood. We do want to take the opportunity to be a warm and welcoming presence in Kitsilano, so if you'd like to partner with us in this, we would very much invite your participation. Please contact info@redemptionchurch.ca if you'd like to join us in hosting our neighbours!
