UCM: Greece Service Trip

Greece Trip Header.png

University Christian Ministries, an AMS club at the University of British Columbia, has directed many of their outreach efforts in the past two years at privately sponsoring refugee families to live in Vancouver. Since fall 2015, they have partnered with UBC Refugee Relief to raise over $30,000 in total for both a family of 8 (who have successfully relocated here) and 4 young Syrians whose sponsorship process is underway. Now, they are sending a team of 13 students to Lesvos over Christmas to respond to an urgent need for volunteers.

BC Wildfires Response

The following is an update on how our fellow PAOC churches are serving their local communities affected by recent Wildfires throughout BC. We invite everyone within the Redemption Church family to pray for these efforts, and to prayerfully consider donating through the link below:

Greetings Prayer Ministry Partners,

We are now over three weeks into the evacuation from BC wildfires -- thanks to a good response from local governments and other agencies, much of the immediate needs for the evacuated families have been met. Those evacuated from their homes have received food, water and hygiene supplies. However, emergency funds will end when the evacuation orders are lifted.

As families return to their homes, there will be a great need to purchase groceries and other household essentials. For many vulnerable families that are uninsured or live pay cheque-to-pay cheque and haven't had work for the past couple weeks, the expenses are too much.

ERDO continues to partner with PAOC BC and Yukon District churches to provide immediate assistance to families as they return to their communities. This program will benefit families in meeting critical expenses such as:
laundry services
purchases of household essentials

This program is run through local churches in the most-affected communities in the region, and will also position churches to be a blessing to their local community.

Your donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.

Christmas Hampers

This season we're helping the Crisis Pregnancy Centre of Vancouver & Richmond by collecting items for Christmas hampers. These hampers are for mothers and their families, all of whom are in low-income situations. Church, would you consider blessing these families by gifting one or more of the following items:

  • Groceries (or a grocery gift card)
  • Presents for infants and children under age 2 (clothing, toys, or books)
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Gifts for mom (ex. soaps, chocolates, and candles)

If you'd like to contribute, please place items in the designated bins that are located to the right of the stage by Sunday, December 13. If you have any additional questions or would like more information, please email Redemption community member, Katrina here.

* Please note that the items need to be new as these hampers are given as gifts to the families.

Also, every Christmas we like to put together small gifts for members of our own church community. If you would like to participate in this, please purchase some grocery gift cards and drop them off in the main office.

* Oikos communities will be assembling Christmas hampers for families in need from Bayview Elementary School.

Help Support Red Frogs

Red Frogs is a service group to UBC that provides support, harm-reduction, and positive peer influence in the midst of party culture. During the party, Red Frogs volunteers serve in any way needed: giving away water, donuts, freezies, and the ever-addictive Red Frogs candies.

Red Frogs has been invited to serve at the UBC Welcome Back BBQ on Friday, September 11. We would love your assistance to help cover the cost of various Red Frogs supplies. If you're able to give financially, please note "Red Frogs" on your Sunday offering envelope.

For more information, contact Tyson at tyson@pgcc.org and check out Red Frogs.

Help Send Laura to Mexico

As one of the leaders of a graduate student ministry associated with Intervarsity at UBC, Laura Bulk has been invited to be part of the Canadian delegation to the 2015 World Assembly this July in Mexico City.

World Assembly creates a rare opportunity for believers in campus ministry from 120 nations to gather together, learn, pray, encourage and discern. Laura reflects,

"World Assembly has become especially timely for me, as I've been struggling as a scholar without many Christians around me who are encountering similar challenges associated with research and academia. At World Assembly I will have the opportunity to meet with research students and faculty who are living in similar situations, and learn from and with them how God would have us conduct ourselves in academia. This will further equip me to serve students here at UBC during this coming year.

As I embark on this journey, I would deeply value your support and prayers as I and others from around the world prepare to go. I want to learn what God's vision is for me in campus ministry at UBC. I hadn't anticipated that while doing my PhD God would also be leading me to be part of this exciting movement. Finally, for fundraising - I don't like having to ask for funds, but as a mentor here on campus pointed out, it is a big part of the whole thing: trusting God that he will provide for me and my teammates to go. So please pray that I'd be wise, patient, trusting and most of all glorifying to God in this process."

If you'd like to support Laura in any way, email her here or connect with her this Sunday, June 28, as she shares a bit more about her trip during the service.

Welcome, Baby Dreier!

Hello there, little Joshua!

Congratulations to proud, first-time parents Eduard and Erika Dreier. Joshua made his debut into the world on the afternoon of April 13 weighing 8 pounds 14 ounces.

A baby brings a  multitude of (amazing!) changes. A meal schedule has been set up to help  Eduard and Erika maximize these beginning days with their little guy in this time of transition.

Click here to view the schedule. Please sign up for a day and if possible what meal you're taking. Erika is a vegetarian but does eat fish. No meat, please (unless you want to make something meaty on the side for Eduard). There are no allergies to note.

Please bring meals in disposable containers that do not need to be returned to you. Call or text Erika at 778-872-9476 beforehand to arrange the best time to drop off the meal. Their address is listed on the meal schedule.

Thank you for giving your time, energy and yummy meals!
