We have been given the opportunity to live out our vision statement by partnering with Journey Home Community and Tenth Church to provide Afghan refugees with support in their first weeks while they are getting established in Canada.
This is not a sponsorship program for people looking to enter the country, but an opportunity to help those that have left everything behind to find a safe and welcoming place for themselves and their families.
We are looking to provide support for people for their first 1-3 months. It can take the form of temporary housing if you’re able to open your home. It can also look like a LIFE group or group of friends coming together to be a social network for the refugees. You can help them to navigate the City, find their way around, help them establish their daily tasks and offering friendship and encouragement through a social network.
For more information or to see a copy of a draft housing agreement if you are looking to provide accommodation, please contact the church office.
From time to time we will request specific items to help support those settling in our community. Check out our weekly newsletter or our Facebook Community Group for current items requested, or contact the office.
