We continue in our series on the book of Jonah by looking at the theme of Repentance. After Jonah is vomited out of the whale onto dry land, he reorients his life and is finally obedient to God’s calling on his life to preach to the city of Nineveh. Jonah’s sermon is very strange. It’s comically short, it’s only seven words in length, it doesn’t contain any message of hope, he essentially tells the people of Nineveh that God is going to overturn the city in 40 days. The people hear this strange hopeless sermon, and are cut to the quick, they turn from their evil ways, put on sackcloth and ashes and call out to living God for mercy.
Pastor Daniel explores with us the themes of repentance, sanctification, and the difference between self-empowered change and grace-empowered change.
