We start our summer series studying the Parables in the Gospels. Our pastoral intern, Daniel Ayim kicks off our Parables series by tackling a very difficult parable. He will be preaching on the Parable of the Minas found in Luke 19. The Parable of the Minas is often paralleled with the Parable of the Talents found in Matthew 25. After all, both parables revolve around the theme of a master entrusting resources to his servants and then going off to a far-off destination. Both parables reveal that upon the master’s return, one of the servants was unfaithful with what was entrusted to them. On a cursory read, it’s easy to assume that the meaning of both these parables has to do with the theme of stewardship.

But what if Luke’s parable is more about revealing false assumptions that God’s people have had about God’s nature and character?
