In this message, we start exploring the topic of gender. In particular, what is the Christian perspective on gender? In our day, nothing has created more division in Christian communities than the questions of gender, sexuality, and identity. For the next two messages we will be exploring the topic of gender, but as we do – our deep hope is that we all encounter Jesus in some way.
In the words of Sister Maria Gemma, one of the sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration once stated: “If Christ is our ultimate model of someone who embodies perfect truth and love, how would he treat someone today, or how wouldn’t he treat someone?” She states three things:
- Jesus is never going to lie to someone.
- Jesus is also never going to walk away from someone.
- Jesus is going to encounter someone.
As we explore this contentious and divisive topic, we pray that each of us experiences the good news that Jesus has for us, a good news that includes our bodies.
